The Wesley Works

Digital Edition

Update: 2023-10-15

The Wesley Works is moving to our new server at Emory University! This transition is occurring throughout Fall 2023. We’re excited to share our updated display with you, as well as the hundreds of new documents and resources we’ve encoded. Stay tuned for the new link.

This is the Digital Edition of the Wesley Works Editorial Project, which was launched in 1960 to provide a critical edition of the writings of John Wesley. Frank Baker was appointed Editor-in Chief in 1969. Richard P. Heitzenrater served as General Editor from 1986–2014. Randy L. Maddox is the current General Editor.

The first four volumes emerging from this project appeared as the Oxford Edition of The Works of John Wesley (1975–83). The directors then gratefully accepted the offer of Abingdon Press to assume publishing responsibility, and the name was changed to The Bicentennial Edition of the Works of John Wesley.

This digital version of the Bicentennial Edition is in its earliest stage of development and is currently being edited by Michelle M. Taylor and technically managed by Jason P. Edsall. It runs on the Srophé application. The files currently available on the site were created as part of a proof of concept and come from various volumes.
